Past Progressive Part 3.pdf

KEY POINTS:

  • Structure: was/were + verb+ing
  • 3rd use of Past Progressive: for actions that were happening at the same time in the past (simultaneously).
  • We normally use "while" to separate both actions, but in spoken English, you'll hear native speakers use "when" as well.
  • If you remember from Past Progressive Part 1: we use "when" for interrupted actions.
  • However, if you conjugate both actions in the Past Progressive, there will be no confusion that both actions were simultaneous.
  • In the comments: Were you doing something else while watching this video?
