KEY POINTS:

  • Do people in your country/community mock each other's English ability?
  • Does this make you think that native English speakers will do it too, but much worse?
  • Stop thinking that, it's not true!
  • Especially when you are in multicultural English-speaking cities, there is such a variety of accents that we see making fun of someone's English ability to be rude.
  • There are some people who will still be impatient, or rude, but that's just what they are - impatient and rude. It has nothing to do with you. Do not take it personally.
  • If someone laughs, it's because something you said was funny. Don't worry, we're not laughing *at* you as a person, but at the words. Individual people will find individual things funny. We never know what will tickle our funny bone!
